HowTo: Open NJStar Help on Windows Vista

Windows Vista or 2008 refuses to open any old help file with .hlp extension by default. All users need to download and install the winhlp32.exe update from microsoft website:

HowTo: mix both simplified and traditional Chinese characters in the same document

Normally NJStar display Chinese character according to the setting under Help or View menu - "Simplified/Traditional System". You can overwrite this default by applying simplified/traditional font name, such as '南极系统简体', or '南极系统繁体',  on the selected Chinese characters.

Can NJStar WP work with Chinese Microsoft Word file?

NJStar Chinese WP is capable of exchanging RTF (rich text format) Chinese text with MS Word. So you can copy and paste in between NJStar Chinese WP and Microsoft Word. Also, you can save file in "RTF (rich text format" in both programs, so that the file can be opened interchangably.

HOWTO: enter Pinyin with Tone Marks in NJStar Chinese WP

To enter Pinyin with tone marks:

  • Switch your input method to "Input", "Online Pinyin";
  • Type pinyin with tone numbers. For example, nan2 ji2 xing1. Press [Shift+Space] for each pinyin conversion.

You can also convert a block of Chinese characters to Pinyin with tone marks by using "Tools", "Convert hanzi to pinyin".

Where are the User Modified Input Dictionaries saved ?

Because non-admin users are unable to write to C:\Program Files\ folder on NTFS, we have changed to "Application Data Folder" since version 5.10

Why can't I input in NJStar Chinese Word Processor?

Please check if the "teaching mode" is on. The "teaching mode" forces users to type PinYin with tone mark in order to get the desired character. Simply go to "tools" and uncheck "Enforce Teaching Rules".

Can I create my own Chinese input method in NJStar?

Yes. You need to have the souce table in special format, please read file UTILITY.DOC in NJStar Chinese WP or Communicator. Chinese Input methods created using the included tools can be used both in NJStar Chinese WP and NJStar Communicator.

HOWTO: modify the Pinyin of any Chinese characters

For example, I want to enter Pinyin "xue" instead of "xie" to get "blood".

You can modify (add/delete) the pronunciation (Pinyin) of any Chinese character:

  1. Choose "Dictionary Manager" from "Input" menu, then click the "Pinyin..." button;
  2. Enter the Chinese character in "Hanzi:" field; then Pinyin with tone such as "xue3" (for blood) in the field of "Pinyin:"
  3. Click the "Add" button.

 

Can I use NJStar CWP to create chinese HTML documents?

You will be able to create and save html formated file with NJStar Chinese WP. NJStar Chinese WP even saves Chinese a html file with spaces inserted automatically in between Chinese every two characters to take of the browser text-wrapping. It is currently good at automatically creating basic text-based html Chinese pages, taking care of basic html tags such as <p> <br>. And you will have to put links and graphics tags and links in yourself.

HOWTO: find the Chinese Commercial Code for a Chinese character

 In some ID or VISA applications, Chinese Commercial Codes (CCC, also called Chinese Telegraph Code) are required. NJStar CWP comes with "Telegraph" input method to help you input words with so called Chinese Commercial Codes/Telegraph codes. Please go to "Input"->"Other methods" and select "Telegraph".
